Event Officials
It is a requirement of our Governing Body, British Orienteering, that all Planners, Organisers and Controllers of our events must have completed an Event Safety Workshop. There are also specific courses available for Planners and Organisers which are strongly recommended. Information about how to access training is here.
All Controllers must have attended a British Orienteering Controller course at the appropriate level for the event (A for Major events, B for National events or C for Regional events). Level B and C Controllers must have attended a British Orienteering Level B or C Controller course and have their qualification approved by the WMOA. This will then be recorded on the British Orienteering database by the Association’s Controllers Coordinator (contact details here). The full requirements for Controllers, as determined by British Orienteering, are here.
All events in the West Midlands League, the West Midlands Urban League, the West Midlands Relays and the Laurie Bradley Score Event are Regional events and must have a Level C or higher controller who is not a member of the organising club.
To help clubs find Controllers from other clubs to meet this requirement, a list of the Region’s controllers is held by the Association’s Controllers Coordinator (contact details here).
