West Midlands Urban League latest

It’s time to get your entries in for the next two events in the West Midlands Urban League.

Shrewsbury Urban, Sunday 25th August, Wrekin Orienteers

Shrewsbury is a medieval town which retains many ancient buildings and has a number of small alleyways connecting its streets. All the information on the Wrekin Orienteering website and the event flyer is here.


Worcester City Urban, Sunday 1st September, Harlequins Orienteering.

An exciting new area for orienteering including historical landmarks, the main city centre, canals and the University. More information on the Harlequins Orienteering website and the event flyer is here.

WM School Championships

WM School Championships

Thanks to everyone who came to the WM Schools Champs at Cannon Hill Park on Saturday, and Harlequins orineteering for organisning the eevent. We hope that you enjoyed it. The results of the event are available here. 

Congratulations to everyone who took part. The WM Orienteering Schools Champs Trophies were awarded as follows:

  • Primary School Trophy to New Hall Primary School
  • Middle School Trophy to Winterfold House School
  • Secondary School Trophy to Discovery Academy

The West Midlands Championhips (incorporating a WML event) on 12th May are now definitely postponed, due to changes to the access.

Fortunately, POTOC has now managed to secure the area for Sunday 15th September, with Whitfield Valley identified as a fall back if necessary.

Harlequins Orienteering hosted the 2024 West Midlands relays on a sunny day in Baggeridge. The results by relay class are here, and a pdf file of the results by course is here. Did you know that WRE were the first club to map Baggeridge Country Park way back in 1985? Back in those days there was no computer mapping and training maps were drawn with pen and ink and photocopied in black and white.

The map was surveyed by the late Ken Posnett (Wrekin’s one time Chairman) and drawn by Dave Gittus and was used for a couple of Tuesday evening training events before HOC mapped it in colour.

Running on the map was quite tricky!
