Our thanks to the volunteers from Octavian Droobers who hosted the inter-club West Midlands Relays on Sunday at Pooley Country Park. Results are now available on the OD website here. Congratulations to Harlequins who dominated the field, with 11 of the 20 teams, winning 6 of the 8 contested classes.

The fourth and penultimate event in the 2025 West Midlands Urban league was at Castle Vale, Birmingham last Sunday. The results are on the Harlequins website here, and the league standings are here.

All members of the WMOA are cordially invited to the West Midlands Orienteering Association Annual General Meeting on Monday 13th October at 7-30pm. This year the meeting will be held on Zoom only. If you would like to join the meeting via Zoom please let the Association’s secretary know by Monday 6th October so that you can be forwarded the log in details.

Many of our members will have very fond memories of Chris, who has sadly passed away. Our thanks go to Robert Vickers (Harlequins) for alerting us to this sad news, and for the information below.
Chris was born in 1928, and moved to Lincolnshire several years ago. He came to the UK from his native Norway, and he gave a talk in which he recounted his experiences as a boy during WW2, when his skills as a young orienteer were put to good use in the activities of the resistance to the Nazi occupation of his country.
Subsequently, he was one of the forerunners from Scandinavia who were active in introducing Orienteering to this country, so we all owe a great deal to him for his enthusiasm. He produced a booklet entitled “Hints on Orienteering”. Most of the information and advice contained in it is just as valid now as it was when he wrote it. He was active in the WMOA, taking the position of Development Officer in the early days of its formation and organising training courses for the first generation of UK orienteers.
Chris was a much respected member of Harlequins, who recognised this with the award of Honorary Life membership.
